Hi all
Our club, the Palm Beach Macintosh User Group, Inc. (IRC 501/c/7) -
http://www.pbmug.org - is required by the PB Board of Education to be under
their
liability insurance policy. It costs us a littl less than $400 a year. This is
a
"slip and fall" only policy. It does not cover the officers, or the club, from
being sued for "error's and ommisions" or damage's incurred by information
that
is given out at meetings, in the newsletter, or on the website.
I served for years on the Board of Directors of the club. I brought the issue
of this kind of E & O insurance to the Board of Directors. Even though these
good men and women have various personal liability insurance, they thought
they were judgment proof as a not-for-profit organization. The proposal was
rejected as not being needed and/or too expensive.
That is one of the reasons I chose not to run for any Board (or corporation)
position. I still volunteer for other responsibilities, though.
We live in a litigious society, and I don't want to explore the inner
workings of our legal system because I tried to help someone learn how to use
their
Macintosh.
