Do many of you get the MacTopia newsletter? It is Microsoft's Mac Business

Units newsletter for Mac people. It has a bunch of useful information for

Lorene,
Nice info, but...
sure wish that their Mindshare website worked most of the time. It used to work
90% of the time before they changed to the .Net Passport supported site. Since
the change, you can get in, but once there the connections are spotty at best.
Submitting something (like a review which I'm sure that they would want) was a
major "submit" breaker. It was/is much easier to just send things to the email
address than trying to use Mindshare access which often failed with "pages not
found" "Try looking here instead". What!?
I used to receive the Mactopia newsletter and for some reason that stopped over
a year ago. I never bothered to sign up again from experience with my troubles
connecting with the website for my group. Tried using the link that you
provided, as I'd like to subscribe once again, but login gets me in while
clicking on the "submit" button required at the end, leads to " this page not
found", so I have no clue if they got my registration. Enjoyed reading the
articles thru the website!
Contrary to what I've heard from some other user groups, I must have say that
our club has gotten great support from the MacBU. Contact with Gary Wilson and
others has been totally helpful and forthcoming on behalf of the club! The
only thing that he's been unable to accomplish is making a personal visit to
NCMUG-OH. But ...like they say... I'm like a proverbial bad penny that's
always turning up and I hope that he can visit us this year or next.
This summer my prez and I got a chance to meet with one of MS's Mobile Division
Managers for PDAs, phones for the PC side of things. Beth Torrone Goza, had
contacted local user groups during the early spring that she would be in the
area in summer and would like to visit with one or two local UG leaders per
group that she'd invited. We rsvp'd/attended and could not believe when she
mentioned how many clubs she had invited. That out of approx. fifty clubs, only
eight local UG's had replied back to her that they would be interested. Only
five officers attended! Two of those were Dave Lenigan and myself (P & VP of
NCMUG-OH), two other well-known PC club leaders both directors of the AAPCUG,
and one who just became officer for his organization and mainly deal with PDAs.
Good and well for all of us as we had quite nice and comfortable conversation
and dinner. I made my suggestions for improvement of the Mindshare site and
followed up by emailing her and the Mindshare webmaster. If you have anything
that you'd like to share with them, whether a call for improvements or
something that you liked, they are most willing to hear about it.
In appreciation, our club will see a demonstration of new upcoming software
with either a visit or a prepackaged demo. It will probably be for Office 2003
for PC unless "someone" can talk Gary into making the visit instead. Even if
we are Macintosh users, we are interested in knowing what's on the other side
and learning! One should never be so rash as to ignore or turn away
opportunities that could offer the most minute glimmer of learning about
friends...or enemies! While "I" don't consider M$ to be so, I'm sure some
others reading do! :-)
On a side note...they (M$) are aware that the current Mindshare model one of
the problems that they have, but until the company decides to support it in
full, they have to do with only one person managing it, in addition to all his
other duties. Not a good way to run a program. Either support it fully or get
it the heck out of there! I would hate to see them lose the user group program
though. If you aren't willing to work with the largest community of users that
serve to provide education, support and highlight of new products to a huge
portion of your user base, that would be one of the easiest ways to lose a lot
of customers.
