It's actually the Ambassador that can get the free .Mac for the site - you should be able to make a decision as a board & move forward with the Ambassador.

We've got our main site hosted by our local Mac store & ISP, but we still use the .Mac for our Calendar, Photo/Movie gallery, and as a way to showcase what .Mac can do - part of the success of getting more people on board is them seeing the advantage of having a .Mac account.

Your president actually doesn't have to put any effort in if they don't want to, but if your MUG wants a free .Mac, and votes for it, who is he to put it down? Go to the group & see if there's interest there - get enough people interested & go for it.
