Greetings...
We are urging user groups to announce the "Adopt-A-School" program
to members who may be involved in K-12 education, particularly middle
schools. Schools who wish to participate in the roll out of
this new "Safe Internet" program can have their computer
labs outfitted at no cost.
UGs in Virginia should call: Fred Showker at 540-433-8402
The "Missing" program has been tested in the second semester at
local middle school here in Rockingham County VA with great success.
The results have prompted the rest of the school system to adopt
the program. The curricula revolves around a "mystery" style computer
"game" played in class challenging students to become investigators
in an internet abduction case. They interview parents, relatives and
friends of the abducted child, analyze clues, work with FBI agents,
and utilize internet tools to discover the victim's location.
"MISSING" Lab kits will be provided at no cost to the school or
sponsoring member. Kits include all the CDs, and learning materials
to outfit 10 to15 computers, Mac or Windows, and include a training
package for teachers, administrators and parents.
An impressive VHS video presentation is included for the 'adults'
introduction to the program. We have already already presented the video
to several schools and civic PTA organizations with great results.
See:

Groups and schools adopting the program into their "computing" curricula
can also obtain on-site training for personnel at no cost, or the
members of the user group can take over the training if it's needed.
The package is so complete, we didn't require any training to
institute it into our middle school here.
I will be presenting the video along with my "Anti Spam" program
to the Virginia Mac Users Group (VMug) meeting this coming August 4th
in northern Virginia -- check with
http://www.vmug.org/ for
directions and info.
If your group would like to incorporate this program into an
upcoming MUG meeting, let me know.
This is an important and timely program and you are urged to help
make it part of your community's computer education. Internet crimes,
particularly abduction and identity theft have doubled in the past
9 month. Education is the best defense.
Get going today.

contacts.
Sincerely,
Fred Showker
