Our group here on Maui has done a few different things. Around a year ago
we worked with a non-profit serving youth. They would let us use their
facility for meetings and in return, we would help them refurbish donated
Mac computers for a loan program they had with the kids. Currently we meet
at the community college and they allow us to use the facility for free. In
return we have a member teach an OS X class there for free. We also help
maintain their only Mac Lab on campus, since the staff is PC oriented. Also
the county hosts a computer recycle day every six months, which allows the
community to get rid of their old computers and keep them out of the
landfills. Some stuff is junk, but there are items that come in that can be
sent into homes of families without computers. Our group host a Mac table
at the event, and has around 10 volunteers parting out machines, rebuilding,
and such. The last event saw two original iMacs come in which we were able
to get working.
