Here we are again, and this time will be : "The rest of us against
Apple for being "country-cist"
----------------------------------------
The Apple Design Awards 2003 Contest, which is sponsored by Apple
Computer, Inc. ("Apple"), ends Tuesday, April 15, 2003. To enter the
contest read these OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES. Enter to WIN a 17" PowerBook
G4 and Cinema Display.
SECTION 1: ELIGIBLE CONTESTANTS
1. The contest is open to:
Companies that are software developers (" Company developer "), who
have membership in the Apple Developer Connection (Online membership is
acceptable), with a principal place of business in the United States,
Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea,
Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand,
Norway, People's Republic of China, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore,
Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Kingdom ("countries").
<------ maybe the rest of the countries are not so..... who knows......
Individuals who are software developers (" Individual developer ") on
their own; have membership in the Apple Developer Connection (Online
membership is acceptable); are legal residents of one of the countries
listed in the Company developer section above.
Students who are software developers (" Student developer ") on their
own, who have membership in the Apple Developer Connection (Online
membership is acceptable), who are legal residents of one of the
countries listed in the Company developer section above.
----------------------------------------
Nor our (LatinAmerica) elitist countries for Apple like Brazil, Mexico,
Chile and Argentina are on the list, neither Switzerland (? - well
maybe they are not on the EU - but if you compare our economy with
their economy, maybe they become poor recently)
Again it "sounds" like there is no logical explanation on how those
countries where choose to participate on this contest. I'm sure there
is a perfect explanation, but it is not clear for the ones who couldn't
participate.
Every time Apple proceed this way puts barriers between Mac users,
people who intend to support Mac platform, and I can't understand why
if we are 3% of the market Apple want us to feel like we are not part
of that number, or maybe the correct number indeed is 2.5% or who
knows, could be 3.5% and Apple reduce it on purpose to denied us.
Why our people are good enough to participate on WWDC and not good to
enter a contest, ah yes, they pay by themselves to participate, face
it, that doesn't mean they are good developers and WHO cares if they
try to support Apple platform and develop for them or at least have the
intention to do so, for some reason we do not deserve to participate.
Apple should make their contest, specially those intended to support
their GOALS, OPEN to everyone (if you have to take out those countries
who has restrictions with US politics, that is one thing, but this is
other thing...), and then if they don't qualify to win, they will
loose, but at least they will be happy for being treated with equality.
I will never understand this politics, I will never understand why a
company so great close doors so easily.
