MacRIT, MUG FINANCES, MaUsE AT BARRIE MAC EXPO AND DVDFEST ON THE USER
GROUP REPORT
On the menu this time are exciting events by two campus user groups, a
small group participating in a big event in Canada and managing user
group money. Featured guests include:
- Sarah Friedlander and David Barbati from the Rochester Institute of
Technology Macintosh User Group (MacRIT) join us to profile their group,
their annual LAN Tournament, their cross-platform iPod raffle and campus
group perpetuation.
- Jim Foster of Macintosh Users East (MaUsE) outlines his group's
involvement in the Barrie Macintosh Expo, and why their small group is
doing big things with a vendor who is not even in their immediate area.
- Arthur Barber of The Tulsa Users of Macintosh Society (TUMS) discusses
his MUG's finances and a fiscal policy they developed that allows their
board to operate the gropu effectively while still remaining accountable
to their membership.
- ReeD Martin of Apple North Apple Field Macintosh Users Group tells us
how his campus group covers two different colleges, how they have the
community involved, and how their flagship event, DVDFest, has attracted
the participation of the Executive Producer of The Lord of the Rings and
The Matrix.
The User Group Report is the audio series hosted by Chuck Joiner that
features interviews with people making news in the user group community.

CENTRAL VALLEY MACFAIR SPONSORED BY FRESNO MACINTOSH USERS GROUP
The 2nd annual Central Valley MacFair will take place Saturday, April 26,
2003, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Ted Wills Center, 770 North San Pablo,
Fresno, California.
The event is sponsored by the Fresno Macintosh Users Group and CompUSA.
The fair will feature vendor exhibits and demonstrations, classes, and a
swap meet. Apple, Inc. and CompUSA will be among the vendors. The Fair
will also feature a raffle, with a new iBook and other prizes.
Classes will include Introduction to Mac OS X, Mac and the Internet, and
Mac the Digital Hub.
A swap meet at the Fair provides Mac users a place to sell equipment they
no longer need and gives buyers a chance to try used equipment at a
reduced price. The Fair is open to the public. Admission is free to those
who pre-register before April 1st and $5.00 at the door. FMUG members
will be on hand at the fair to answer questions.

CAMPUS GROUP'S DVD FEST ATTRACTS LORD OF THE RINGS & THE MATRIX EXECUTIVE
PRODUCER
The second part of DVD Fest 2003 at Carleton College in Minnesota will be
held on April 26th, and is attracting some high-profile attention.
Produced by the North Apple Field Macintosh Users Group, the first part
of the competition part was a student film competition using iMovie for
Carleton students. Over 75% of the campus student body participated in
the event, with almost 40 teams contributing entries.
The final part involves the DVD Fest Regional Finals, which are being
held on April 26th. Regional campus groups are invited to submit their
best 2-5 minute iMovie films on DVD (iDVD). The highlight of the event
will be a premier night with Barrie Osborne, the Executive Producer of
The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix.

BARRIE MAC EXPO WILL FEATURE USER GROUP PRESENCE
MacSolutions, a dynamic retailer of Apple Macintosh products in Barrie
and Peterborough, Ontario will be hosting the 2nd Annual Barrie Mac Expo
on March 27th. Featured will be vendor exhibits, a continuous schedule of
educational Mac-centraic seminars and more. Macintosh Users East (MaUsE)
will be flying the user group flag high by staffing a booth throughout
the event. Admission is free the to public. Complete information is

WIRED WOMEN REPORTS ON FACUG SPRING CONFERENCE
Gail Murphy of Wired Women has updated the group's site with a report on
the Florida Association of Computer User Group's Spring Conference,
including a written report, a link to photos of the event, and handouts
and a Powerpoint file of her presentation at the conference.
