Greetings...
Thought I would pass this along for those of you not
subscribed to Lynn Wegley's weekly column "MUG Info Manager"
I won't "pad" the list by posting the entire piece here,
see links below.
The "Site of the Week" took us to the NASA "Rover Ranch"
a web site all about robots.
It suggested a wonderful MUG meeting, or series of meetings
built around the LEGO / Mindstorms programmagle robotic toy
kits which can be linked to and driven by your Macintosh!
Bring in community involvement by contacting any of your
middle schools or high schools who have the TSA as part
of their "Technology" Departments. (Which have replaced
"shop class" in most schools.) Chances are they would be
happy to come to a meeting and give a demonstration!
A demonstration of LEGOs robots being operated from the
Macintosh is an exciting and inspiring presentation --
sure to get some of your members fired up about Mac robotics.
(My son showed me his class project for "Technology Engineering"
at Old Dominion University -- a QuickTime movie of a robotic
manufacturing device his team built. The model sorts different colored
jelly beans, rolling along a conveyor belt, picks them up, and puts
them into their color coded bins with an incorporated robotic arm.
The whold thing blew me away... all constructed of Legos, driven
by the Macintosh -- even the QuickTime movie captured by an
Olympus digital (still!) camera linked to his TiBook!)
Check it out.
