I agree with Jim on most points but on my first trip to MWSF, me and 3 of my
User Group buddies had rented a car for two reasons. First to drive Lombard
Street (the world9s most crooked street) and to visit Apple Headquarters in
Cupertino (maybe not worth the day rental for just one person but there was
4 of us). Apple Headquarters is pretty tight security wise (we were told not
to take pictures, even in the parking lot) and there is not much to see
except the Apple Company Store (gift shop with more Apple branded
merchandise than any place else). The running joke from one of my buddies
(who buys a new Tower at almost every release) is that he has bought so many
Macs from Apple he has had to pay for a Brick or two at Apple Headquarters
and he wanted to see HIS BRICK first hand! As a true Mac user, it is always
good for 3Bragging Rights2 to say you have been to Cupertino at least once
in your life (LOL).
Other than that, public transportation is a breeze as Jim said. I would
suggest buying a 7 Day pass which allows you to ride all Public
Transportation for less than $20. Good for hopping Cable cars on the fly and
for pre planned trips to different destinations.
As far as hotels, we also stayed at the Marriott for less than $100 per
night, use some of the Internet sites to try and find a better deal than
$199 per night. Last year Internet access was like an additional $12 per
night per room but we brought a Base station and we were all able to surf
off of just one room net access charge.
Hopefully, I9ll be at MWSF 04 too. I have to start planning soon.
