Rick -
This is perhaps one of the biggest advantages for maintaining an AOL account.
My regular ISP is extremely firm about my not being able to use their server
for our MUG newsletter. However I still have my AOL account from the days of
their User Group outreach program. AOL does have a "white spam" list that they
maintain and you might consider opening an account with them after conferring
with their customer service. The upside is that it does go through. The
downsides are as follows:
a) once in a while their servers will say that it did not go through because
the host could not process your request. However if you do as I do and send a
copy to your mauimac.org account, you will be able to see if it went or not.
b) once in a blue moon (I have not had this problem in over 12 months) you
also may find the account halted for sending SPAM. If this happens you phone
them and they open it up again.
Both of these are minor inconveniences compared to larger uncooperative ISP's
who are basically just trying to do their jobs even though it hurts us in the
long run.
Depending on your email needs you could probably deal with one of AOL's
cheaper accounts which gives you 3 or 5 hours access a month.
Yes I know that a lot of people sneer at AOL - but reality is reality. Many
medium size businesses have gone back to AOL because of the convenience of
monitoring employee usage when they are on the road, etc. No one loves 600 lb
gorillas but the reality in this case is that it works.
