Hi guys,
Thank you very much for your messages.
I couldn't imagine that such a number of messages are replied. This is
an obvious evident that all of you love Apple like I do.
I'm sorry but I was just a bit nervous about the news and I didn't
remind a proper words to say and recognize the actual situation in
China, neither. So that it might have been a bit on the hysterical
side.
I thought China couldn't be exported any technologies from any western
countries by COCOM so far, so that when I heard the news, I thought
WindowsOS could become the first runner.
However, in fact, Windows might have been already expanded widely
enough even in China.
Here, I have some arguments for some messages:
Some of you said Apple uses IBM's chip. OK, it's true. But what they
sold is not the computers which MacOS can run on.
And some said Apple has many AppleStores in the world and is increasing
the numbers. It's true, either. I'm not sure the exact numbers, but you
should be able to count the numbers of AppleStores without using
other's fingers. Even in the world.
Can you imagine uncountable retail shops in Japan have been making
Apple's space smaller and smaller and many don't have a space for Apple
and its related products EXCEPT iPod?
That's why I wondered if Apple would become a gadget manufacture.
You can tell this if you see the Financial reports of Apple Computer,
Inc.
Anyway, as you know, there are about 600 million people in China, and
they speak the same language. It's even almost 1/5 of human beings on
the earth. I strongly hope Apple doesn't fall behind Windows in China.
I'm really sorry nothing but this might be already late, though.
I have some ideas for increasing the share in China.
Apple might as well develop some basic business software for Chinese
market by themselves and strongly recommend Chinese governments and
companies the software and MacOS's firmness.
If it's impossible, they should held a developer's conference in China
without collecting the entrance fee and make the gathered people become
Apple's developer, and provide as many documents in Chinese as they
already have in English now. Be careful about last one. There are some
documents translated in Japanese, but some of them look like they are
translated by translating software, not by human beings. They are very
terrible to read for even Japanese. Such documents make me feel like
it's even better to read them in English. But don't think that it's
good not to translate them. There are many Windows documents in
Japanese and enough to get information easily for Japanese developers.
To get as many good developers as possible is a key to success. In
Japan I heard some major computer companies used to lend, in some cases
give, their computers to developers freely and have them make many
applications. But Apple doesn't. they sell their computers with only a
very little discount. I suspect the Sales figure of computer comes from
only how much developers bought. It's a bit exaggerated, though. ;)
Apple should never do the same mistake in China as they have done in
Japan.
Keep in mind that Windows has already got wonderful multimedia
(graphics, sound, video, so on) programs which could run on only Mac a
few years ago. So it can't be help to say "Mac has nice graphic
applications" or so on. Windows also has GUI, even Apple imitates some
part of it this time. So Apple shouldn't think they have an advantage
about GUI.
So Apple should go to the area where Apple has never stepped in, and
get "a world of" people to Apple as their users.
I wonder my nostalgia about Apple makes me this mad.
Merry Christmas to you all, (Is is too early to say this?)
Norio Ota
