JOMACS' PROJECT RESTART PROVIDES USED COMPUTERS TO CHARITIES
What do you do with older Macs (and perhaps even PCs)? The Josephine
County Macintosh Users Group has found an answer for their group's
members and the Josephine and Jackson counties of Oregon. JoMacs runs
Project Restart, a computer reclaimation project that accepts machines
from both platforms, refurbishes them and then works with local charities
to place them in homes that othewise wouldn't have a computer. (More)

USER GROUP SURVEY: COMMUNITY SERVICE ANSWERS
Our most recent MUG Center Survey queried user groups about what
community activities or charity projects they participate in, either
during the holidays or throughout the year. The answers were quite
varied. Several groups responded that they are involved in some fashion
with their local school system, helping teach the teachers, maintaining
computer labs (Macs, of course), or assisting in technology-related extra
curricular activities. The project that is most popular is refurbishing
older Macs and donating them in some fashion to organizations or families
who otherwise would have none. (More)
