The Syracuse Macintosh Users Group looked into formal nonprofit status
a number of years ago and decided that the hoops weren't worth the
potential benefit. Yes, we pay sales tax on our supplies but not enough
to hurt. Yes, we pay higher rates for our bulk mailing, but still below
regular First Class rates. We're not making as efficient use of our
members' dues as we might be able to, but the few of us who volunteer
for the group don't kill ourselves with record-keeping either. After
all, if it weren't fun for us too, what would be the point?
