As being a younger person myself here are some of the things I do to
keep some of the other young people to keep coming to the meetings.
- Have some meetings where we set up some Macs and let members create
songs in Soundtrack (Now with GarageBand it's even easier and a lot
more people are excited because it's affordable).
- Share songs we buy off of the iTunes Music Store (not actual files,
just the artist and song names).
- Hook some Macs together and play a game like Warcraft 3 over a
network (really fun),
- Bring all our computer books that we get from O'Reilly, Peachpit, and
all the other great publishers and let people view them and check them
out.
- Show off the newest applications from Adobe, Apple, Macromedia, and
as much great shareware as we can find.
- Show off the newest Apple hardware... everyone really gets hyped up
when they see new gizmos and gadgets so we always give a presentation
and if we can get a hold of the item in time show that. Our last
meeting I teamed up with some of the members and we all brought a bunch
of stuff to show the others. It was just a stuff-o-rama We had every
generation iPod, a few iSights that we showed off while chatting in
iChat AV, a G5 and G4 tower, all 3 size PowerBooks, an eMac, just to
name some. It was crazy, I was never expecting so much stuff to show
up, everyones response was just wow. I loved looking at everyone having
so much fun.
I bet a lot of the groups already do some of that stuff you just have
to find some younger people and they will keep coming. My group
basically is aimed at creative professionals and mostly the newest
stuff related to stuff like Final Cut Pro 4 and Photoshop but it's
really nice to sometimes break away from that and have some fun. Of
course that's not for the young people, It's the regular stuff we do at
most of the meetings and it just so happens the younger people enjoy it
a lot too.
If I think of some more stuff I'll make sure to send it in.
Chris
