Cowtown MUG, here in Fort Worth basically as one man that distributes
Macs to the students at his neighborhood grade school. He accepts
everything. Then donate what he can't use to Goodwill, getting a receipt
that he passes on to the original donator, although they don't always
exactly match up.
Currently he looks for Powermacs, but still puts out 68K machines
depending on the needs of the student. I have seen him "upgrade" a
student who really uses a machine to a newer model based on the usage
more than the need. I have helped him in the past obtain Macs from other
groups and also done minor help in getting machines ready. Hope to do
more in the future.
Some monitors (especially early PC ones) get trashed, but those have to
go to the city recycling center which only accepts electronic gear one
weekend a year. (Coming up the end of March.)
His biggest need is for mice and keyboards as those are the first to go.
Lynn

Our MUG just completed a 10 hour move of Macs and other peripherals new
a new storage facility where we could actually work on them and be able
to distribute macs to children in need here in Chicago.
I ask other MUGs that have Mac recycling programs where do you draw the
line on which Macs your MUG will accept?
I happily found that Mactracker is now available for iPods.

We need to weed out our collection due to fire code risks and for the
need to determine what is even reasonable to give away.
BTW for every offer of volunteering to assist us with the move I
recieved two emails for more donations. So firm bottom line suggestions
are much appreciated as we try to have things at least to fire code
standards by Sunday.
Also any suggestions or thoughts on how to dispose of old Mac stuff
that cannot be given away either because of poor condition or because
of being out-of-date would be helpful.
Thanks so much in advance.
