Final Cut Pro 4 for Mac OS X: Visual QuickPro Guide
By Lisa Brenneis

776 pages
$29.99
As I thumb through this book again, I cannot imagine that there is a
single feature of Final Cut Pro 4 that is not covered in this weighty
volume. It starts at the very beginning, telling you how to install and
set up Final Cut Pro and the devices you are going to use with it. It
also tells you how to optimize its performance. From there, it devotes
over 50 pages to presets, settings and preferences, to make sure you
get set up properly.
It helps you understand working with projects, sequences and clips, and
how to log and capture video clips individually and in batch capture.
Brenneis also tells you how to import still images, Photoshop files and
audio files. After all that, she shows you how to organize all of those
assets in your project(s).
Lisa does a good job of explaining all the various controls to work
with clips in the viewer, including playing them, markers to set in and
out points, timecode, subclips, etc. all of that leads to the next
chapter on basic editing.
Of course from there, it moves on to chapters on more advanced editing
techniques, including trimming your edits in the timeline and viewer,
FCPs incredible audio tools and how to use them, and transitions.
Final Cut Pro has advanced compositing and motion features, and she
covers them well. She also gives good direction on the advanced titling
features.
Rendering and output methods wrap up the sequence of instruction. She
also offers advice on managing very complex projects. If you want a
really thorough look at FCP, this is the book for you.
