Hi Doan
Just got back from Boston and read your post. Actually, the numbers that you
came up with by doing a state-by-state search of the database are kinda
misleading. For one thing, corporate and k-12 groups do not show up at all. To make
things messier, groups are continually appearing and disappearing, since an
active status group whose contacts or web site disappears moves to pending, as
do problematic listings.
At present, the US Locator's numbers look like (USA 667) (international 74)
(online only 71) (other countries 197). Of course, many groups list in more
than one category; for example, Dallas Corps is listed as both Dallas and
international. The total of recognized, active groups in the Locator is 934. There
are an additional 677 groups that are on pending or new applicant status.
To make matters more complicated, there is more than one Locator, although
the US is the home version. As a result, Japan shows very few groups when you do
a search from the US version, although there are many groups in Japan that
show up in the Asian version of the Locator.
So, there are far more groups approved & in existence in any given quarter
than show up with a simple check. (approximately one out of every three
applications for recognition is accepted).
Hope your recent event was a good one - Sounded like fun
