Unfortunately, many Apple (retail) Store employees have not heard about MUG's
*Macintosh User Groups). At least, that's been my experience here in south
Florida.
I have visited the two stores here in Palm Beach County, and the employees
gave me the impression they knew nothing about Mac support outside of the little
training classes run by the store and the AppleCare extended warranty.
The good news is that we could change this. Treat their ignorance as an
opportunity to educate them.
For example, if you have a newsletter, add them to your mailing list. In
fact, have your club officers go to the store as a group and introduce themselves
to the manager and staff, and drop off a bunch of your newsletters.
If your club has business/introduction cards, hand a few to the manager and
these employees you meet. Let them know that you're here to help. Maybe you
could even invite them to your next meeting.
Also, members of your club could start attending these Apple training
sessions. There's no better place to find new Mac owners than there. Be sociable be
friendly, be inviting ... bring some of these intro cards with you and invite
some attendees to your next club meeting.
There are lots of ways to turn things from dark to light. Richard Bach wrote,
"You are never given a wish without the power to make it come true. You will
have to work at it, however."
