Hi Mac.
It's curious, but I have to work on a Dell laptop at the office every
day, and if you ask me why I'd like to use my TiBook instead of that
bulky dell, I can give you an endless list. But to be practical, I'll
tell you guys my last week's story.
Monday: The Dell wasn't booting, I wanted to check if the problem was
the HD or the system... is there a way to hook up that pc to another
one and mount it as an external disk as we do in the macintosh using
just a firewire cable ant booting with key T? -No. the PC was alone by
itself...
Tuesday: After checking the PC, we discovered the HD was dead, Dell
sent the replacement HD in one day and I started to install everything
again. Restore CD??? yes, but it needs 3 different discs with
unpronounceable drivers you must install one-by-one trying to match the
collage-kind of hardware inside of it. It asked me what kind of format
I wanted to use on the partition... NTFS...?
Finally after 8 hours of hard work, the windows was installed.
Wednesday: I've been trying to access the network for 5 hours and the
PC can not see the other PCs in the office... no network printers, no
nothing...
Thursday: I'm still installing drivers for the network card... ant the
IT guy is remote-controlling my machine trying to find what's wrong
Friday: The computer is running but I'm still unable to "see" the
printer and the computer can not find the printer's IP... cr*p!
Monday: Finally I decided to bring my TiBook at work; I opened the lid
and it automatically found the network with zero config. The network
printer is there... I can see it!! why the PC can not?? The other
computers and servers are there, on my Finder window.... security
login? Done. Transfer files? Done. Internet? Done. Printing and
scanning? Done
And that,... is only one week!
