Hi all,
I've recently joined this list, as editor for the South Australian
Apple Users' Club.
A couple of weeks ago there was discussion on replacing print MUG
newsletters with PDF versions. We did that in October 2000, and
immediately halved the club's costs. Some members were unhappy about no
longer having paper in their hands, others got themselves lost trying
to download it from the club's web site, but they now seem to have the
idea.
Personally, I was happy to deal with one less printer(and print
deadlines), and the mailing people were happy to be without a job. Just
FTP it to the site and let people know by email list that it's ready.
I use FrameMaker (although for how much longer must be questioned) and
the conversion to PDF is almost automatic. AppleSauce is designed to be
read on screen (pages are 640 by 460 pixels), and includes Bookmarks,
Next and Previous buttons, live Web links, etc.
For a sample issue, log into the SAAUC Web site <www.saauc.org.au> and
navigate to the Downloads section of the Members only area. Username
is: members Current password: spreadsheet
Ten years ago I published a version in FrameReader format. I'm now
converting them to PDF, and a couple are available from
<www.saauc.org.au/AppleSauce/>.
Cheers,
Peter
