your MUG meetings?
Hi Jim!
Sounds like an excellent program and a great success story. MaMUGs
recently offered iChat AV presentations live from Macworld Expo in SF
with really great results. We were luck enough to be able to have one
of the very first iPod shuffles to actually "show" via iCav and it was
great fun for everyone, I think.
As MaMUGs has offered video chat presentations since QuickTime
Streaming Server was released, we now use either iChat AV and/or
LiveChannel Pro from Channel Storm
<http://www.channelstorm.com/index.html> (you may have seen "Your Mac
Life" which is done using this software as well). Another great add-on
is using ScreenBroadcaster in iChat AV
<http://homepage.mac.com/rossetantoine/ScreenBroadcasting.html> which
allows you to make your DESKTOP the video source. This is really
helpful when trying to showcase a particular software title, etc..
Working with groups as far away from us (based outside of Philadelphia)
the UK, I agree that it is a really fun way to interact with a
presenter.
Some of our most successful video presos are:
- MaMUGs' Tech 911 (people step up to the camera and ask questions one
at a time)
- Talk About Resellers
- of course, live from trade shows and conferences
- Remote Desktop and Timbuktu Pro
I hope this is helpful. All I can say is that this will all get much
easier and look a lot better once Tiger makes the scene...the QuickTime
H.264 codec quality is simply stunning. Add that to the multi-user
conferencing abilities and you can add, e.g., a product manager from a
vendor or multiple locations to your presos.
Cheers,
Dan
