Gary,
When you plug a working video device, ie projector or monitor, into an iBook running Panther, it just automatically connects and MIRRORS, or reproduces the same image on the external device as on the built-in screen. My iBook G4 works best if it is awake when I plug in the external monitor. If I restart, I have to unplug the external monitor till the apple appears in the startup screen. If I forget, it starts in open firmware, and I have to type "mac-boot" and hit return to proceed. That may be a bug with my mac, or it may be a common problem, I don't know.
My church has been trying to show PowerPoint slideshows and other presentations with PeeCee laptops, and every time, they have had to be restarted or replaced, or fiddled with for a while to get showing the preso. So, our Deacon in charge of technology purchased an iBook like mine just for the purpose of showing those presentations flawlessly. It just works, and works when needed. Now, the pastor has ditched his IBM laptop for a PowerBook! And He is planning to be sure any computer purchased for the church in the future is a Mac!

Now I have conflicting info. You say it should automatically, my last response said iBooks don't support this. I am confused.

I believe the White iBook mirroring just happens when you plug the
external monitor (or projector) into the Mini-VGA port
