Title: Re: Apple CompUSA User Group Event
The Michigan Apple User Group had a Board Meeting on the same evening as the event, so my thoughts were after our meeting, we as a Board could show up to the CompUSA event as a show of support. Problem was that half of our Board was out sick with colds, flu or other illness so, the VP and I went over before grabbing some dinner (our Treasurer had went before the Board meeting).
In the front of the store they was a “swig of Apple Cider left in a Jug”, a picked over slice of Apple Pie, and some tootsie roll candies along with a basket and some Post It notes for a contest entry. I poured a cup of Cider, and tried to fill out a form but the pen was out of ink.
I saw one of our members who had just purchased a copy of iWorks (at a small discount) and he loaned me his pen and said the drawing was for a CompUSA gift card and they do one per hour. We chatted for a second and went back to the Mac department to talk to the Apple Rep (who is a member of two local Mac User Groups also). He was in the middle of a sale (or two) on some systems but took a few moments to chat.
I asked where was all the FREE GIFTS and DEEP DISCOUNTS, and he said they were all gone from earlier in the day (it was after 8pm). Anyway, I took a quick look around the Mac Section and ran across the specials sheet (nothing spectacular, $10 or 20 Rebates on some stuff). Over all the even wasn’t too bad or horrible from what I heard, but as others have stated it was VERY LOW KEY.
The Troy Michigan CompUSA has a Microcenter within “spitting distance” and a Apple Store a few miles away along with Circuit City and Best Buy within a mile radius so the competition is fierce. The events could gain a few Mac Users to frequent CompUSA more often but Microcenter has some GREAT DEALS (like Apple Month) and the Apple Store is well The Apple Store so CompUSA will have to “step these events up” in order to really compete.
