The university that I work for is searching for a technician with
Macintosh experience (especially with Final Cut Pro and various
broadcast hardware), as well as technical experience with equipment in
the TV studio on campus (correcting a phase-shift problem, etc.). Studio
maintenance ability is crucial, but Pro Macintosh knowledge is also very
much needed. Details are below. You can e-mail me if you have specific
questions, but since I'm on the search committee, I am limited by what
additional information I can provide. The deadline to apply is June
20th, so make haste!
Electronics Technician III (30716)
Department: School of Communication (1 vacancy)
Pay Grade: 71
Salary Range: $34,284 to $53,363 Closing Date: June 20th, 2005
PREVIOUS APPLICANTS FOR THIS POSITION NEED NOT APPLY
DESCRIPTION:
The College of Fine Arts & Communication is seeking to fill an
Electronics Technician III position to perform maintenance and repair of
complex electronic systems in the broadcast studio within the School of
Communication. The position requires considerable knowledge of
construction, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of
electronic television broadcasting equipment. Ability to troubleshoot
and repair electronic systems made up of complex integrated devices is
necessary, as is the ability to work with and troubleshoot personal
computer systems, primarily Macintosh (though Windows ability is
desirable). Successful candidates must be knowledgeable of electronic
principles and have considerable knowledge of mathematical principles
and physics as applied to electronic circuit analysis. The position
requires knowledge about and the ability to use non-linear edit systems,
especially Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools, and other video effects and image
manipulation software (e.g., AfterEffects, PhotoShop). The position
also requires considerable knowledge of the types and uses of tools and
test equipment utilized in field and studio video signal measurements,
maintenance, and repair. The position also will maintain an inventory of
electronic replacement parts. This position requires the ability to
recommend shop equipment and replacement equipment and will compile a
library of technical literature and be knowledgeable of the most
up-to-date information in this area.
The position will confer with faculty about electronic equipment for
teaching and research in the design, purchase, installation, and
evaluation of equipment. Because this position works closely with
faculty and other employees, good interpersonal skills are essential.
This position will modify standard and non-standard electronic devices
in the studio to improve performance or customize for special use.
General knowledge of Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) rules and
regulations pertaining to the operation and maintenance of television
transmitter equipment is required.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a community college or technical institute with a
two-year degree in electronics and two years of progressive experience
in the maintenance and repair of complex electronic systems, including
some responsibility for the design of electronic apparatus or an
equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a
valid North Carolina Drivers License
