Hi again,
Today I got a letter from a good friend saying that my post came through at somewhere around 5 point type. So, I am resposting with a diff font. If you read yesterday's letter, ignore this one.

-----------
Thanks for all the comments on the html question. I was surprised by how many people took the time to write and even more surprised by how lopsided the results of the poll were, since I expected that html would be the clear winner. The outcome was the exact opposite.
Including private emails, there were sixty two responses and a strong preference for plain text. (39 plain text, 10 html, and 11 said that they were okay with hybrid, dual, or either; one person voted for both sides and one offered no vote, just a comment).
Probably the most persuasive was Fred's comment about always keeping to specific messages to specific audiences. He wondered why I was asking; the question came up as a worry that the Bulletin was too old-fashioned and not suiting our audience. (Fred generously said ethics would prevent me from using hidden code, but he and Rick know me well enough to know that the main problem would be my sorry tech skills.)
I received some great examples. Probably the best was from Andy Gaunt of FMPug, who sent a link to his group's dual platform newsletter (powered by FileMaker) that I could share with the Board. Between those comments and the multiple posts from people like Tudor and Paul I learned a lot. (And who knew that we could get away with calling Emilie “Auntie Em”?)
Greg Maxwell asked if the Bulletin was done by volunteers or Apple and Deb said that she did not want to add to anyone's work load (thanks Deb!). It is a team effort, with Tom Piper working with vendors, Warren Williams checking the offers to see if the items are advertised for less elsewhere, past Editor Elsa Travisano keeping the archives and me writing the text. We are all volunteers. In house, our program manager Jeff edits my text and then it goes to Apple Legal for a final okay before publication.
I am sorry this letter is wordy, but am just so grateful for the number of responses and the wealth of information shared. I will take the comments back to the board and post their decision here on list when they make it.
thanks times ten
Sandy Foderick
