Did anyone note this or was I the only one...
Steve looked like crap... he was thin, looked much older and I loved
it when Phil introduced the Mac Pro "I'm so excited", but he in fact
didnt look too excited...
Just wondering...

It's WELL WORTH worth the watch! Very exciting! (1:25) I had to
pause it
every now & then just so I could run around the house in
excitement! Whoo
hoo! Fun stuff!
It starts with the business announcements; Not only is Apple having
it's
best quarter ever, but 50% of new Macs are being bought by new
customers!
That means Apple is expanding our market in a big big way.
The Apple World Wide Developer Conference (this week) is attended
by 4200 developers from all over the world. This is the biggest
attendance ever! Those are the folks who are writing the applications
that helps make Mac great. There are already 3000 applications
written as
Universal Binaries so they run really well on both iNtel & older G4/G5
Mac computers. This is all amazing news considering that Apple
announced
the move to intel just 210 days ago!
Ok, so new Mac models... The G5 is replaced by the MacPro tower.
Ripping
fast dual core, dual processors (2+2=4). All kinds of feature, and you
can fit 4 hard drives in there, without needing any tools.
New xServe models - also ripping fast. Also far cheaper than ever
before.
Macs are now officially way cheaper than comparable PC's from dell,
etc.
Both available to ship today.
The Apple guys really poke fun at Microsoft & the much-delayed Windows
Vista. That's good for several laughs. Definitely watch the keynote!
While MS has been trying to copy the Mac OS and has yet to produce,
Apple
has delivered 6 major versions of the Mac OS X.
The Next Mac OS X;
Leopard 10.5 is looking awesome! It has so many way cool toys that I
can't wait for it! You'll have to watch the Keynote presentation to
check
it out. One feature that is so cool I can hardly stand it is the new
iChat. It lets you show an iPhoto slideshow for your friends &
family -
via video conferencing- even if they are far away. You can narrate
the
slides, interact with your audience, control the slideshow, be in the
'picture in picture', and even change the background behind you.
This is
so wild! Step out of the picture for a sec, so iChat can see what the
background is. Then step back in, and as if you had a blue screen, you
can choose a different background behind you. You can pretend that you
are reporting from the beach, instead of your office. (Or vice
versa!) It
gets really crazy if you choose a video background - it's all live!
There
you are - standing in front of a live video, as if you were really
there.
You have to check it out. Leopard will be available in Spring 2007,
and
comes with all the usual Apple bundle toys plus more.
Apple is building in the most elegant, cool, and easy to use Back
up I've
ever seen; Time Machine. Steve says that only 26% of people back up at
all. Do you? And guess what percentage of people actually use an
automated, regularly scheduled back up system? ... Just 4%. That's
counting me of course. I hope that SBAMUG members are at least using a
firewire drive & SuperDuper. It really bites to lose everything,
and I've
seen it happen "a few times". The Time Machine is so cool- it's fun to
use, and it backs up everything, all the time. You can get back a
missing
file from months ago, or whatever.
The new Apple Mail looks like way too much fun. Check it out!
Notes, To
Do's, & Templates that rock!
Anyway - there is a lot of WAY COOL stuff from Apple on the way. You
might start making room in your spring budget for OSX Leopard and
maybe
even a new Mac!
How am I *ever* going to get to sleep tonight, all excited like
this?! :-)
Best,
Dave Nathanson

One of our NEOAC members just brought the following to our
membership's attention on our List Serve.
Check out Apple's web site:http://www.apple.com/
Click on Leopard Sneak Peek, and then click on the various icons,
time Machine, Mail, iChat, Spaces, etc.
