Hello Friends,
It's a busy time of year for all of us, and I don't want you to forget some
happening things in January. Get your calendar ready to mark the first event
-- User Group University 2007.
This year we have a spectacular group of speakers for you to learn from.
The event will be held on Monday, January 8th from 12:30 p.m. until 7:30
p.m. at the Argent Hotel.
Registration begins at 12:00. You've registered, right?
If not, hurry on over and register: http://acteva.com/go/macworld
The sessions begin at 12:30 with... (trumpets)...
Steve Wozniak!
Woz is a strong supporter of user groups and you will not want to miss
hearing his widsom and wit. We are very excited to have Woz join us this
year. What else can I say about him that has not been said by many for many
years? Nothing -- just don't miss seeing/hearing him.
At 1:30 Tom Piper, the Vendor Wizard who gathers all those vendor offers
each month, will present a 50-minute session which will build on the theme
of mutually beneficial relationships between people or groups and will
feature Tom and a panel of interesting vendors. This session will start with
a short overview of how we usually contact vendors, arrange exclusive
discount offers, and distribute this information. This will be followed by
presentations from three representative vendors about their user groups
experiences, relationship preferences, and recommended communication
methods. The dialogue will wrap up with a Q & A session for audience
participation.
After a very short break, Rick Ortiz and Pat Fauquet will talk to you about
"Beyond the Meeting: Giving back to your community."
All user groups follow a pattern. They bring people together and provide
information to them. But groups are now expanding beyond that model. They
are now reaching out and becoming involved in their local communities,
giving back.
In this session we will explore a community involvement model many user
groups are participating in: Mac Recycling, Reuse, and eWaste. We will
discuss how to get your group involved and share examples of groups running
such programs. The success of community involvement involves one key
component: volunteers. We will wrap up this session with tips for leaders on
how to recruit, train, retain, and thank their volunteers.
Next up is the ever-popular Terry White! Terry will grasp our hands firmly
and take us into the 21st Century, guiding and suggesting ways to make our
groups vibrant and FUN -- a key to growth and productivity. His group is a
prime example, for sure. (MacGroup-Detroit)
Rounding out the sessions will be our DreamTeam: Chris Breen, Adam Engst,
and Bob LeVitus. "Since You Asked..." was such a popular session last year
that we decided to bring it back. Your user group questions will be
presented to this dynamic trio. Their responses will surely inspire you and
give you suggestions to take back to your own user group. Their banter is
sure to entertain and educate you.
If you have registered, watch your email inbox for a "call for questions."
You'll be hearing from me soon about that, so get your thinker working on it
now.
Finally, we will end the day with a Vendor Reception giving our vendors a
chance to show off their wares. The ever-popular drawing for prizes will
happen during this time as well. Thank you, Vendors!
I hope that I have stirred your senses. You really don't want to miss this
event if you're planning to be in San Francisco in January.
That's it for now, but I'll be back with more information about the week
that "is" in January.
Happy and safe holidays,
Trish
