Hmmm, Interesting. I hadn't given Virex a thought since the old JPEG
virus "Proof of concept" scare and a quick scan of my Tiger
Applications shows it's not installed and I keep my .Mac apps up to
date.
I went to Apple's Online Store and look at the .Mac retail box and it
has no mention of Virex bundled with it now.
Easy online photo sharing, group collaboration, up to 2GB of file
storage, ad-free email, and more. A .Mac membership extends your Mac
experience to the Internet so you can easily share anything you create
— pictures, ideas, documents and more — with friends, family and
co-workers. Integrated with Mac OS X, iPhoto and many other
applications, .Mac makes sharing your life on the Internet as easy as
using your Mac.
I also remember taking the .Mac quiz for a Free Account for the User
Group and also remember no real mention of the Virus Protection
feature while taking the quiz. Even on the iDisk, only software
available is:
Appleworks Update (English & Japanese)
Backup 3 (10.2.6 or later version & 10.4.2 version or later)
iCal for 10.3
iDisk Utility
iSync for 10.3
iSync Palm
iTunes 6.0.1
Mac Slides Publisher
No Virex to be found....
When did Apple stop quietly promoting Virex as a part of .Mac?
DId a knowledge base search and ran across these:
Apparently Virex has problems with Tiger and it was easier to dump it I guess:

Here's the Uninstall procedures from Apple's website:
