Jeykll had a Hyde. Mac users may possess the same 2-sided passions,
even if not wanting to own up to the darker one. But it's a dynamic,
perhaps even desirable property nonetheless, better than the ho-hum
world of PC users, who have so many different vendors to get mad at (if
they do) that the diffusion dilutes the impact!
In a Star Trek episode, after a planet had been freed from the syruppy
mind control of a goofy, smiley tele-evangelist-type character, a
sociologist was left behind to monitor the dawn of a society now having
to cope with everyday, human emotions. Captian Kirk took a report from
her as the ship sped away, asking her how it was going. "Well, we've
had several arguments and a fist fight or two already, so I think we're
making progress!"
I'd choose a love-hate relationship with Apple any day over a placid
--flacid?-- one. We can go into a room with them and give them our best
shots of logic, complaint, whatever, even indefensible whining --but
hopefully aongside a heap 'o praise for continuing to make exciting,
elegant machines for us to use, and software to run them that is
brilliant. No, we don't necessarily get our individual wishes, but when
the smoke clears we get ever-fresh ideas and ever-better (overall)
equipment and software.
If the relationship is not syruppy, even is contentious at times, I
like the dynamic nature of it.
