Hi, Rick!
You may have thought of this already but just in case you haven't…and
I'm not sure if it will serve as a satisfactory sub for karaoke but
your member could bring up the lyrics of songs in his iTunes library
while the "Sing That Tune" widget is launched. "Sing That Tune"
brings up the lyrics of the song being played. Unfortunately,
singer's voice can not be deleted digitally. It would be more like a
sing-along than a karaoke. Also, type size of lyrics on screen is
small and may be hard to read but can be enlarged using Zoom if the
System Preference of Universal Access is turned on and you hit
Command-Option-= . The widget is free and can be downloaded from
Apple's web site.
Forgot the Japanese expression you once taught me or I would have
used that. Instead…best regards. Maybe, if I'm feeling better, I'll
see you at the next Expo.

Does anyone know of software that turns your iMac into a karaoke
machine with
music and words?
One of our new members, who is a switcher, goes into nursing homes and
conducts a Mitch Miller type sing-a-thon. He would like to set up
about an hour of
canned musical favorites that older folk would enjoy along with the
words.
