Well, there didn't seem to be any objections so here's the update I sent to
my members last Saturday.
I do this every week or so. The length varies depending on what's going on
but I find it a great way to keep members informed of what's going on and
what their committee's doing.
I'd be interested in your opinions on this style of regular communication.
You'll notice that I even give our local, friendly rival AUSOM some
publicity!

-------------------
To all iMug members and their family and friends
It's been a big week for iMug. This week, the Committee invested in a couple
of "accessories" for meetings. We purchased an Epson projector for use at
meetings and other iMug events and a Snowball Microphone (as shown by Les
Posen at the last monthly meeting. These were purchased from long-time iMug
friend Palaeographics (www.buymac.com.au)
One thing I'd like to mention is our iMug email list. This is a core part of
the service offered by iMug. There are many instances where we are told by
members that the list is the best $25 investment they've made to accompany
their Mac. However, there have been occasions where the list service we use,
Yahoo, has let us down.
This week we had an instance where some messages were not delivered for well
over 40 hours. Please be assured that one of the things the Committee is
looking at is moving to a service that we can manage ourselves. The
Committee has been using an alternate service for several weeks now and we
plan to move the main list to this service later this year. Our intent is to
do this with minimal disruption to services and with as much history as
possible migrated across to ensure that we maintain a complete record of
what's been discussed in the past.
On the question of list use, can I remind you all that not everyone receives
the list as a series of emails. Many receive either a daily or weekly digest
of messages. This means that they get a single message that aggregates all
the messages for that day or week. In order to improve the readability of
digests can I ask anyone replying to a message to delete the parts of the
message that aren't relevant to the response. For example, Yahoo adds some
advertising to the bottom of messages. Please delete this from your replies.
Finally, if you have an item to sell that you'd like to advertise to
members, could you please email the request to me (email@hidden)
for inclusion in my update. While it doesn't happen often, and isn't
considered to be a problem, the list shouldn't be used for unsolicited
advertising. If there are enough requests, I'd be happy to add a "Members
Classifieds" to this update.
Have a great week.
