Jim, Ilene, all
here is a map that I've occasionally given to Chuck to post in the UG Lounge,
here you can print your own (courtesy Eric P. Scott, a bmugwest member):

Quoting Jim Foster <email@hidden>:
Hi Folks,
After a couple of years of bitching to see if I could get someone else
to come up with a Meeting in a Box that our MUG could use in the Fall
months to promote the idea of our members making plans to travel to and
attend the January Macworld in San Francisco, and not seeing any
results, I have decided to try to put such a presentation together on
my own. I am shooting for something that would hopefully be about 30
minutes of presentation plus time for questions, and I want the
presentation to be split 50-50 between the "Macintosh" reasons why a
person would want to go to Macworld and the "Tourist" reasons why that
same person would want to go to San Francisco.
Our MUG is located on the east side of North America. I therefore feel
it's important to try to do this kind of presentation in the Fall while
there is still lots of time for our members to search about and try to
find the most economical ways to travel to and stay in San Francisco.
Most of the resource material I will use to develop this presentation
will likely be things that I find on the Internet, and/or photographs I
took last year when I attended Macworld for my first time.
One of the things I want to include are some recommendations for fine
dining. It is fairly easy to find such "top ten lists" on the Internet,
although most are either based on the entire San Francisco area or
certain specific neighbourhoods like Chinatown. I would like to
supplement this kind of list with another which is more focused on the
geographic area surrounding Moscone Center, based on the assumption
that a lot of the people to whom I am preaching would end up using
hotels in this area and would therefore want to find restaurants within
walking or short cab ride distances.
So, the purpose of this message is to invite anyone who wants to
suggest their favourite restaurants or eateries that are in the
"Moscone area" to drop me a line. I guess it would be fine to reply to
this list, but I also do not mind if folks want to email me directly as
a means to avoid any inter-restaurant squabbles!!
Of course, if anyone has any other ideas on key things that they would
include in such a presentation targeted to existing MUG members, feel
free to include them. My plan is to work up this presentation in
KeyNote, then make it available to any other MUG's which might like to
use it, conditional only on the notion that anyone who finds ways to
improve it agrees to make their version similarly available to the MUG
community.
Thanks for your time.
