Here's where I have issues with server-side spam filtering. None of them are
perfect, only filtering out spam. Each and every one of them have false
positives and filter out good mail. If you've given over the power to filter
your mail to your isp, then you don't know what you're not getting.
If you're OK with that, then it's a good thing. Since I rely on email for
business communications, there's much at stake. Entourage's filtering
catches 98% of the spam I get on a daily basis. The other 2% get marked as
spam and deleted.
I also know that .Mac *does* do spam filtering. But again, it's only a short
time that commercially available filters are valid, since spammers can get
around them quickly.
Remember, if junk mail and spam didn't work, they wouldn't fill up your
mailbox and your inbox.
