Then that is shame, as Pages isn't anywhere near as easy or intuitive of a word processor as AppleWorks is.
That's pretty much the opinion of our local Mac user group (over 85 members).

While my personal opinion is I prefer Word (well actually the full Office package) over AppleWorks. But I much prefer Pages and would not give up Keynote to go back to Powerpoint.

Pages 2 is a huge improvement over v1 and both are far better for me than complex programs like PageMaker, InDesign or Quark. But then I do more page layout then strict word processing (and in fact "used" (if you can call it that - perhaps "suffered" is a better choice ;) Microsoft Word as a page layout program for over 10 years - then I was forced to learn the basics of InDesign, but was never comfortable with it. iWork '05 comes along with Pages 1.0 and while not perfect (far from it in fact - lots of little minor but annoying things) it was a vast improvement for me and the type of work I need it for. And iWork '06 with Pages 2.0 fixes most of the problems and adds great new features.

Also, part from using Keynote for it's primary purpose of producing presentation slides, I also use it to do some basic graphic work - it is far better than any

Look at some of the "splash images" developed for some of my presentations;

That said, many members of my local MUGs also agree with your members - they prefer AppleWorks. But it becoming long in the tooth.
And hopefully Apple will release new applications into the iWork suite - a simple spreadsheet and a simple "drawing/paint" tool. Pages and Keynote both have the basic functions in them (Calculated tables, shapes, reflections etc) so it shouldn't be to hard to add this module
