The Palm Beach Macintosh User Group, Inc. has been around for a good, long time.
We've seen the birth, near death, and re-birth of our favorite computer company.
At our monthly meetings we often have a drawing (fund raiser). All our members have an ID badge to facilitate everybody knowing everybody's name. At the end of the meeting we ask for a donation as we collect these names into the case of our first Macintosh - A Mac Classic. As I said, we've been around for a long time. (Yes, its signed inside. No, you can't have it).
Our membership was as high as 287, and as low as 17. Currently we have 69 paid up members. Things change.
We once had a bulletin board, now a website and Yahoo Group.
We once gave out freeware on a monthly floppy disk (ask your Grandfather what that is), now I burn CDs.
Our newsletter is more colorful now that Acrobat will help us pass it along electronically.
I have been doing this a long time.
I remember Boston MW being almost as big as SFMW.
I remember NYMW feeling even bigger. The Javits Centre is HUGE!
I have been to BMUG meetings in Berkeley when I lived in San Jose (meet you at Original Joe's for the osobucco on Wednesdays for lunch).
Clubs are like stars. Small to giants. Dull to bright. Don't forget the Black Holes when the politics and ego kicks in. Regardless, they're each similar but unique in ways I cannot describe.
I love my first Monday of the month. Its a place to go. Its people to see. Its share something old, and learn something new. Its a MUG.
Good times, eh? Long may they continue.
