Dear Ms. Huffman,
Please find my enrollment fees enclosed in the return envelope
enclosed with my free airline and hotel reservations you sent me.
Thanks, again! ;-)
Seriously, we discussed the comments made here in the last few days
tonight at our Board meeting. I sent edited excerpts of the posts to
all the Board members asking them to think about what we need to do
to get our MUG growing, again. We will probably bring the topic up
for general discussion in our January meeting and try to get as much
comment as possible while suggesting there are consequences for lack
of participation by the majority. We need to come up with a new
strategy to keep from just fading into a 'has-been'. If the majority
just wants to be 'entertained', we may need to have them seek other
places for it. If they feel there are things they can get at the MUG
that are not available elsewhere, we need to build on those. If they
feel like they are getting info and help that is useful, we need to
get them to talk it up to any other computer user they know.
We've had very little ( as in no ) support from the Apple Store in
our area. But I don't think that is their job, anyway. I'm sure they
would much rather have people come to a "Genius" for any help they
might need. Every warm body they can get into the store means a
potential sale. I'm sure some of the managers see a MUG as
competition. It's unfortunate but that's the way it is around here.
And this may only be my opinion, anyway.
We have our last 'regular' meeting for the year next Tuesday. Our
December meeting is basically a family event with food, grand prise
drawings with tickets a member gets at each monthly meeting. The more
meetings attended, the more chances to win! We're planning on a
moderately expensive digital camera, two mini-shuffles ( maybe
engraved with the MUG name ) and a couple of 1Gig thumb drives.
Nothing earth shattering but more, numerically, than in the past. So,
we'll start the new year with some 'soul-searching' and hopefully
find some new energy and paths toward growth!
Hope everyone has a safe, delicious and happy Thanksgiving! ;-)
