Hello,

I'm Chips Chapman, 2nd VP of TMUG (Triangle Macintosh Users Group). I've
been a member of TMUG since 1992, & active as a volunteer or officer for at
least 10 years.

TMUG is based in the Triangle area of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, Durham,
Raleigh), but we have a number of members who live over 30 miles away. We
currently have ~95 memberships which pay the $35 annual fee. There are
usually 35 - 50 folks attending our meetings on the 2nd Monday of each
month, including 2 - 3 visitors who often join TMUG. Our meetings are open
to the public. We have the benefit of a nice auditorium in Durham with free
WIFI, & we own a projector. Our meeting programs generally include a 30 -
45 min moderated Q&A session, 1 or 2 short presos, & a longer feature
preso, most done by TMUG members. We give away 2 or 3 door prizes to
members at each meeting, & sell tickets for raffles 3 or 4 times each year.
Our XCom meet once a month to plan our general meetings & work on our
infrastructure.

I've been a subscriber to the AUGD list for over 3 years & to the AUGB for
nearly 8. I subscribe to the daily digest of AUGD, & read it almost every
day. It's exciting that Allen's request has prompted over 50 responses &
the 4th digest issue for Wednesday (as of 10pm). I enjoy reading most of
the comments & questions from around the world, even if they are sometimes
OT.

I heartily agree with Benjamin Stanley in favor of a list rather than a
"message board" or forum. I prefer the simplicity of downloading my email &
reading it as I have time (often off-line) rather than logging into a web
page laden with often unnecessary graphics & loading each post
individually. One of the features of Mailman (the server app that runs this
& other Apple lists) is that it provides a fine archive of all list posts
which can be sorted by date, thread, or sender
<http://lists.apple.com/archives/Augd>. TMUG also uses Mailman for our
discussion list, where we have ~175 subscribers
