Hello All,
AUSOM pronounced AWESOME - is just that.
It was formed in 1979 as the Apple Users Society of Melbourne (AUSOM), based
in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
We are an Incorporated organization.
Assisted by a volunteer Committee of 8 and many other Volunteers who run
Special Interest Groups (SIGS) at our Meetings.
While based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, AUSOM members come from many
states of Australia and some from overseas.

We invite you to explore this website to get some idea of the scope of AUSOM
activities.
AUSOM provides a wide variety of services for members including the
following:
A monthly Magazine past copies are available for download from the Web
Site.
A monthly full day Meeting on the first Saturday of the month (except for
January), Meetings are held at Box Hill TAFE College, these provide
opportunities for city and regional members to meet to discuss their mutual
interests and to learn by attending some of the 20 plus Special Interest
Groups (SIGS), which are led by Volunteers and Industry Experts.
Visitors are welcome at all meetings, but joining AUSOM is always
encouraged.
SIGS, are continually being reviewed as new Applications, Computers and
Technology become available.
There is also a General Meeting for members on the Meetings day to inform
them of all AUSOM activities. Each meeting, a member from the Mac computer
community presents to the members, eg. a representative from Apple in
Melbourne visits twice a year with news from overseas and at home.
Members from the distributors of new Software demonstrate their products.
AUSOM members can demonstrate their skills using a variety of programs.
A Film Festival is held to showcase the work of Members of the Digital Movie
SIG.
Advertisers in Ausom News may also demonstrate their latest product.
Lunch is provided by the Rotary Club of Templestowe and this day is enjoyed
by many members.
AUSOM also provides friendly help to members who choose to join AUSOM'S
FirstClass Bulletin Board, (which can be seen on the Web Site) and via the
list of helpful Members included in the yellow pages of the AUSOM News
magazine, (this is not available via the web magazines).
Online discussion forums are also provided through our FirstClass bulletin
board. With over 300 users, this is a great source of help and advice, as
well as enabling members to download the latest Macintosh freeware,
shareware, updates and demos.
Members enjoy opportunities to make connections with other members, and to
discuss and often resolve their computer issues by asking questions in one
of the 25 separate AUSOM conferences.
Replies come from other members some of whom are referred to as Gurus as
they work in computer related fields.
There is opportunity for discussion of many non-related matters on Chit
Chat, jokes to read in Pengers Pad, and to buy and sell excess items in
Advertisements.
FirstClass is one way to involve members who live too far from Melbourne to
attend Meetings, so connecting them with many other Members in the AUSOM
community.
AUSOM runs a Mac only Swapmeet periodically.
Two mid monthly Meetings are also provided for members.
The Retirees and Others Group is a day time Meeting, where members and
outside Presenters pass on their knowledge to the Members and Visitors.
Strong friendships develop here.
An Evening Meeting for those with a particular interest in Multimedia is
held in conjunction with iMUG - the Internet Macintosh Users Group of
Melbourne.
