As you may already know, MacAsia - the Asia-Pacific Macintosh Union -
is already reality. We launched it Saturday, October 21st along with
people in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Geraldton, Australia. The Union was
founded by the BeiMac Union and MacZone.cn of mainland China, Headnix
of Hong Kong, ApplePro of Taipei and the Geraldton Macintosh User
Group of Australia.
We had an iChat to kick off the founding meeting. The discussions
foresaw news and information exchange, annual meetings, a common
newsletter, technical support, Union software, Union-wide design
exchange and the exchange of user group activity info as components
of the new Union.
I hope that the new Union would raise awareness for Apple in Asia-
Pacific, making Asia-Pacific an important regional market. To this
end, we invite all Apple-related organizations (shops, user groups,
web sites, blogs, etc...) in all countries in Asia-Pacific to join
the Union and to share the benefits with all Mac people in Asia-Pacific.
We believe in the idea that once you're in Asia, you're in our
backyard, and we need to give you a home -- a Mac home. (I believe in
this, in particular -- no trip _anywhere_ is complete without a visit
to an Apple shop/Apple Store).
Our Union is an Asia-Pacific-wide Union of Apple-related
organizations, and we're headquartered in Beijing. We aim to unite
Apple-related organizations and resources in Asia-Pacific, to benefit
Apple users in Asia-Pacific, and to build up a home for all Apple
people in Asia-Pacific. Most of us see North America and Europe as
Mac hotspots, and if anywhere in Asia, probably only Japan and
Australia/NZ. We're trying to change that and to bring liberation to
the masses -- making the masses "think different".
As the Asian RL I'm also launching a separate website on user groups
(specifically) in Asia (yes, I promised this back in 2003...).
Members of that organization will also get to join the new
MacAsia.org Union. This way, we'll promote both everyone's favourite
fruit company _and_ Mac user groups in all of Asia.
And of course we're here for everyone, especially for those in Asia-
Pacific. Membership is open to ALL groups in Asia-Pacific (just reply
off-list).
And as long as the Mac still exists, I'll be doing even more for Mac
people... in Beijing, China, Asia, you name it. I got into the MUG
biz back in 2002 and I'm loving it. :-)
Best regards,
David Feng
