Does anyone have a list of companies that might have a Demo in a Box,

have contacts for any specific companies for doing one or several?
Michael,
There aren't that many companies that have these in place but are
heading in that direction. Below you'll find links to a few from
personal experience that I know offer their support to the user group
community. There are many others, too many to list, that do offer door
prize, review or presentation use items that can be shared with your
group in leiu of a personal visit from a company rep. Know that some
will have requirements that your group will have to meet in order to
receive assistance in this manner, but most are very friendly and
willing to help in any way that they can.
BTW, if you haven't planned on attending Macworld '07, now is the time
to register to attend the BEST usergroup opportunity for the MUG
community, held on Monday (day before the full EXPO), it's the greatest
deal around! I have it directly from good "insider" information, that
this year's User Group University (UGU) will be amazing! And you just
might learn some good information on just these details of seeking
vendor assistance. Stay Tuned for futher details to be announced soon!
Early Bird pricing ends mid November, register before this juicy deal
expires.

The one thing I can say works 99.9% of the time is taking the time to
contact the company and simply asking by explaining your purpose and
sharing details about your group and what your expectation is for an
eventual outcome (for example, sharing details of the options and use of
the software with the MUG members at a meeting, via newsletter,
whatever...). Give them something concrete, provide a way for them to
check your group's past history of staying true to your word (link to
past reviews, presos, newsletter archive, etc.) and make sure you follow
through. I've only been turned down once and that was by Macromedia who
had very strict quidelines in providing NFR software only to certified
non-profit groups. That was long before Adobe took it over.
Here are a few for you that I hope provide a good starting point:
Microsoft's MacBU
-yeah...yada, yada re: the darkside...nonetheless, has a great UG
program in place, subscribe if your group is not already a member.
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/usergroups/usergroups.aspx?pid=usersgroups
Matterform Media
-makers of SpamFire and other software are very helpful.

Delicious Monster
-their software is just amazing and can even help the organization of a
MUG's library of items if a book library is available to your members
for borrowing
http://www.delicious-monster.com/
Adobe
-need I say more?
http://www.adobe.com/communities/usergroups/
O'Reilly Books
-covers most any topic you can think of!

Gosh! There are so many more great companies out there at the cost of a
friendly email...Micromat, Prosoft Engineering, MacScrapbook (makers of
iRemember), Recosoft, Chronos (makers of StickyBrain), 4D, Smartsound
(makers of SonicFire)....and the list goes on and on! If you find
something you like or something you think sounds usable and cool,
email! It can be one of the easiest ways to bring to your group new
software, hardware, etc. If "you're" interested, there are bound to be
others in your UG that would share that interest and want to be informed
about what you'd found!
Happy results to you and your MUG on your quest...
Macbeth
