Even though many Northern Hemisphere groups are taking a summer break
this month, there are still an abundance of notable presenters, guests
and topics slated for this week at Mac User Group meetings.
Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus will present to a Texas group, Chuck Rogers of
MacSpeech will be in Alabama and James Lee of Tropical Software is
venturing north to visit a Pennsylvania group.
A New York group will be showcasing a documentary about their group, and
another New York group will focus on the online alternative to some of
your standard applications, Google apps. (more)

The North Florida Macintosh Users Group (NFMUG) August 13 will feature a
virtual visit from Screencasts Online's Don McAllister.
Don will be talking to the group from his home in the UK about "Apple TV
- Center of your Digital Live." Don has learned more than a little about
the Apple TV from both the user and the producer perspectives as part of
creating his show and will be sharing his tips and tricks with the

3 - Bob LeVitus Scheduled for Dallas User Group Visit

Macintosh author, personality and MacNotable Bob "Dr. Mac" LeVitus has
been in hiding, working on some new writing projects, but he is coming
out of his secret lair to make a User Group presentation next week.
Bob will be the special guest speaker at the August 11 meeting of the
Apple Corps of Dallas (ACD) Bob will be talking about all the latest
happenings in the Apple world, the iPhone, some of his favorite
shareware and more. (more)
4 - Take Your Group to 2.0: Get a Logo

We recently mentioned the need for a group logo in discussing the
components of a user group identity, but the topic deserves special
attention because it is so important. It can also be difficult to change
once you've invested time and money in creating any amount of mindshare
with your members, your community, vendors, and the larger world of Mac
User Groups.
Why a logo? Look around you at the, literally, thousands of brands you
encounter every day. You don't have to read them. You always know them
by shape (Apple, Nike) and by color (Coca-Cola red, IBM blue). They
allow a presence to be placed on a wide variety of items and in a wide
variety of media in a concise but recognizable fashion.
