I think this is the point I've been trying to make. It would seem a
little harsh that I'd have to go out and buy OS X again simply because a
small and reasonably fragile media like an optical disc had been damaged
or lost. If I did request replacement media from Apple I'm sure I
wouldn't mind a small fee to replace the media, but how am I supposed to
actually prove I owned it in the first place? In Ralph Woodward's post he
said his was replaced under Applecare, but since that covers the machine
(which would have included a copy of OS X) he clearly owned it in the
first place. Would owners of a retail copy have to send back their box or
supporting documentation? This goes back to my earlier example, although
of course that used the example of two individuals rather than an
individual and Apple.
Sorry to bang on about this, but with about six legal copies of Tiger at
home I'd like to know what would happen if one got trashed!
r.
