* New age copyright...
Early in the "rich media" revolution, we predicted it would
turn out to be an intellectual properties nightmare. Now, it
looks like that prediction is coming true.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Phishing for Dollars
Actually, Fred should call this "Phishing for YOUR dollars" ...
Fred's 60-Second Window for February reports on 2007 getting
off to a blazing start with new Phishing ploys and
techniques that befuddle even the most security-savvy
banks...

-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Federal Income Taxes
Yes, it is that time of year again. I found it interesting
that TurboTax is now including the Mac version on the same
CD as the PC version. That saves Intuit a lot of shipping
and packaging costs without dropping support for the Mac. I
applaud their effort here. By contrast, H&R Block's Tax Cut
dropped support for Mac.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
* Problems Plague New Microsoft Windows Vista
According to NewsMax.com, retailers are already experiencing
problems with Windows Vista.
Then the security holes allow hackers and criminals easy access...

-------------------------------------------------------------------
* New Congress and Net Neutrality
Fred follows his Net Neutrality coverage with this rather
terse piece asking the question
"Where does net neutrality stand with the Democratic take over?
Since Net Neutrality will affect us all, we need to continue
to look at all the angles and developments...

-------------------------------------------------------------------
08 Will your interent be taxed?
Not if these representatives have anything to do with it.
The Internet Caucus Co-Chairs voice their support for
the Internet Tax Freedom Act

10 "Fix Machines That Time Has Passed By"
This Washington post article included a couple of paragraphs
about how the Washington Apple Pi helps people use their
Apple II and III computers. This takes place on Tuesday
nights in their Rockville headquarter where volunteers,
including Lorin Evans help retrieve data from disks and
hard drive and convert to Macs and PCs. Contrats to the
group for the free publicity.

11 InfoManager Blog Updates
We've been getting complaints from readers that InfoManager
is too long. Some time ago the Apple User Group discussion
list "AUGD" started rejecting us because it was too long.
That's why we went with the shorter "TOC" version for them.
So, rather than putting all of the new posts in this
newsletter, it's easier to just send you to the InfoManager
blog. More and more content will be posted to the blog as we
begin the UGN migration to a new content management system.
This shift will allow more of you to comment on stories, and
exchange ideas with other users -- as well as hook in via
the RSS system.
Remember, you can already get the InfoManager via RSS --
just click on the RSS button in the right-hand column.
Please visit the InfoManager blog more often at:

InfoManager is the weekly, syndicated MUG newsletter from
Lynn Wegley and Fred Showker, delivered every Monday morning
to Group officers and members since 1994.
Have a great week!
