As the year ticks down, I am saddened to read the cover page of my December AppleWorks/iWorks Journal announcing that January 2008 will be its swan song issue.
I started using AppleWorks on my Apple IIe. I had to buy a second floppy disk drive and a "notch cutter" for my old paper disks to take full advantage of this program. Not to mention the $250 1 meg RAM card to go in the auxiliary card slot. Man, did that app have zing.
With the introduction of the Macintosh, and the birth of ClarisWorks, it was heartening to see other affectionadoes make sure that we all would be able to get the most of this ever expanding application's abilities.
My first taste of the Internet to come was by using the old Communication module and could live-chat peer-to-peer & on Bulletin Boards around the world. (Boy, am I showing my age.)
Way before PowerPoint was a ripped-off gleam in Bill's eye, we could make full screen Presentations at our club meetings ... with embedded QT movies and music. And this carried over to databases, spreadsheets and documents as well. Too much, and way better than MS Works.
Anyway, I'm sure the folks at AWUG will have more to say on this, but I wanted to say, "Good-bye, and thanks for all the fish."
