AUGD is a place for Apple user group leaders to exchange ideas and discuss topics related to Apple user groups. What a great idea! Many Apple User Groups have members that use the Internet. All of us reading this certainly do. (Yes, I know I'm being sarcastic.)
Many great ideas start in one country and are picked up by another. True fast access to the Internet is one. We in the USA seem to be throttled down to one to two megs per for DSL and eight for cable.
Some lousy ideas have jumped the pond, too. Daylight Savings Time comes, quickly, to mind. France, Germany and the United Kingdom can take equal credit for initiating that nonsense.
"'Net' Neutrality" is a hot issue in the USA. If the Blue Meanies here get their way, the information super highway will become a micro-managed toll road that could stifle groups like ours. International corporations may decide that if its good enough for the USA, its good enough for the EU, and everybody else.
If this Orwellian idea crosses the pond (east or west) it won't help to remember that old saying... "There are three kinds of people. Those that make things happen. Those that watch things happen. And those that ask, 'What happened?'"
For me, if the questions asked can effect (or is it 'affect'?) Macintosh users, and the language is something that wouldn't offend, I think this is a perfect place to run an idea up the flagpole and see who salutes it.
For what its worth, that's my 2ยข.
