During the last month or two KMUG has been getting a few oddly
generic enquiries of the "I've just bought an Imac and want to learn
what to do with it." variety. We give them an invitation to attend
our next meeting, and also give pointers to another Mac organization
in the neighborhood.
What I find strange is the impersonal feeling of the notes (e.g. no
indication that they live in our county) and some odd descriptions of
their Imac, using hardware terms that I'm unfamiliar with (e.g. an
Extreme CPU).
This may only be a spell of paranoia on my part. The only nefarious
thing I can imagine is that they want to harvest email addresses from
any CC recipients I might append to my reply. Have any other groups
been seeing such things? Or know of any ulterior motive that might
lead to such enquiries?
