I remember reading a while back about an unadvertised plan from AT&T
for $10 a month DSL. They have to offer it to satisfy some law or
government requirement. It might take a little digging to find the
offer but it would be worth it.

Well with any dial-up service it is important that you make sure
they have a local phone number available. The last thing you want to
find out after you sign up and start using it is that you were
incurring long distance charges the whole time. I have experience
with PeoplePC and found them adequate. As with any dial-up it
slooooow but if she's just using it for e-mail and very light
browsing that may not be an issue for her. Some prices revolve
around contracts. With Netzero a $10/month charge is with a 12 month
commitment whereas for $15/month you can cancel anytime. Something
to think about. You may want to find out who she gets telephone and
cable from and see if they also provide a discount for a bundled
package including internet. If cost is an issue but she's unhappy
with the speed of dialup that could be a way of getting a better
deal on something like DSL (My local carrier does all three services
for $99).
Hope this helps,

Subject: AUGD: Find a dial up ISP
Hi there
This is kind of personal, but it could apply to all Mac users, too.
My 83 year old Mom (in south Florida) wants to get in on "this
internet thing" so she can get email from her friends and family.
She asked me about NetZero (she saw the advert on TV) and I must
admit that I am ignorant regarding cheap dial up internet services.
Can I get some input from y'all?
I need names, links, prices, feedback on the pluses and minuses of
the service.
Thanks for whatever help you can offer.
