Jerry,
Have you looked into other facilities with meeting rooms and wi-fi
that would let you meet there for little or nothing? Our group has met
at the Chamber of Commerce, when one of our members was art director
there. We met for a while at a Life Insurance Company's headquarters
when the art director there was a member. We now meet at a church
where several of our members are church members, where we have wi-fi
and any of several rooms available. We usually meet in the choir room,
but have several times met in the Sanctuary to view a Keynote on the
20 ft screen. Sometimes we meet in the Fellowship Hall. So far, our
expenses here were purchasing our own projector for the choir room,
and installing an AirportExtreme Base Station there hooked into the
church's internet connection. Since my son and I got the church
converted to macs a year or two ago, the Deacon in charge of the Media
Ministry is now our Vice President, and takes care of making all those
connections. In a group the size of yours, maybe there is someone who
could help you make that kind of connections. Then you wouldn't need
the 501c hassle.

The Naples MUG has not been incorporated or certified as a 501c x

reasons similar to those expressed by others of having a structure
to operate and test concepts.
Currently NMUG is undertaking the evaluation and expect to change
over to a 501c (educational) because of changes in our 'operating
environment'.
NMUG has, since its inception, been able to use the facilities of
our County Library system for meetings. A nice sized meeting room
with WiFi and projection equipment. NMUG has been making donations
to the library regularly that is used by the library for library
materials, upgrading the library for WiFi, etc
This year, because of State mandated Property Tax rollbacks, the
operating budget of County services like the Library has been
reduced AND they are required to charge for use of their
facilities. We meet at the library about 50 times / year and around
2 hours / meeting. The library has two rates: non-profit / tax
exempt and others. The Others rate is twice the non-profit rate.
Given the path of the State legislature, I expect the library to
have to raise its usage rates in the future.
We can save over $1,500 this year by getting to the lower rate
