A few years back I started a Yahoo! Group for just this. It gave us a web presence. It allows for communication to and from member. Its not very Web 2.0, but it gives us what we need with minimal administration.
Files, photos, database, and the wonderful email BLASTS to members. It meets our needs.

Have you considered and looked at Web 2.0 technology such as social
networking sites like Facebook and Myspace? It may be useful to
build-up the critical mass of people you need at the moment, and a
way of attracting younger and more diverse Mac users. It's not a
replacement for a traditional site/mailing list/bulletin board
strategy for your groups web presence, but something that can
compliment your existing efforts and help you build a network.
