I appreciate the feedback, Retrospect is not universal and thus will
be excluded. Additionally, Retrospect is in a Beta cycle of their new
product, so covering the old product will be of disservice.
You are right to focus on restore cycles. Retrospect uses a
proprietary file format and compatibility with future programs and
operating systems cannot be guaranteed. While Retrospect has worked
to enable base compatibility--who knows how it will work with snow
leopard or future hardware/software combos.
Finally, Retrospect is expensive and difficult to use relative to
other solutions out there. I look forward to the new version and
including it the next time I do a presentation on backups.
